Mtetezi: Daughters of Tomorrow

MTETEZI: Daughters of Tomorrow:A Documentary of Activism, Resilience, and Change

This groundbreaking film shines a light on the realities of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and the systemic barriers to girls’ education, while amplifying the voices of survivors and activists who are boldly challenging these harmful practices. Since its premiere in March 2025, Mtetezi has already sparked meaningful dialogue and action. Screenings in West Pokot have reached over 300 schoolgirls and dozens of community members, opening critical conversations on rights, safety, and education. The film has become a vital advocacy and educational tool bridging generations, breaking silence, and inspiring communities to commit to change. With the generous support of the Firebird Foundation, AWRA now aims to expand Mtetezi’s reach across Kenya and globally. Next steps include more community screenings in high-prevalence areas, school-based educational toolkits, advocacy partnerships with policymakers, and showcasing the film at international festivals to amplify African survivor-led voices on the global stage.
