AWRA changemakers fight back
Founding member Lisa Camara has experience in community development and women’s and children’s rights campaigns in Gambia. She has participated in workshops to teach youth, women, and girls self-defense techniques.
Her expertise for campaigning lies in the areas of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. Her work has been drawn on by national and international organizations and governments.
She also combines high-level advocacy with grassroots campaigning. This enables her to remain engaged with the reality experienced by girls and women in their own communities.
The African Women’s Rights Advocates (AWRA) is a dynamic, survivor-led movement founded by African women across the continent and in the diaspora.
