AWRA is a survivor-led, Pan-African feminist movement working to end gender-based violence (GBV) and female genital mutilation (FGM) through advocacy, education, and community empowerment. We center African women’s voices to drive policy change and systemic justice.
We work across Africa and the diaspora, with grassroots programs in Kenya, The Gambia, and Somalia, and global advocacy at platforms like the UN (CSW69) and U.S. State Department.
We are led by survivors and African women, prioritizing intergenerational collaboration and local solutions. Our approach combines legal reform, storytelling (e.g., documentaries), and direct community action.

We platform survivors as leaders, speakers, and decision-makers—from community forums to global stages like TED Talks and CSW69. Our documentary Changemakers Without Borders elevates their stories.
Contact local authorities or reach out to AWRA’s network partners (e.g., Anti-FGM Board Kenya). For urgent support, we refer survivors to trusted shelters and legal aid.
