400;\">Each year on <\/span><b>6 February<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the world marks the <\/span><b>International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a moment to reflect, recommit, and renew collective action toward ending this harmful practice.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2026, under the theme <\/span><b>\u201cTowards 2030: No End to FGM Without Sustained Commitment and Investment,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> we are reminded of a powerful truth: we are reminded that to end FGM, commitment cannot be seasonal, and investment cannot be symbolic. Ending FGM requires long-term political will, sustained financing, and unwavering community-led action. It demands that governments, donors, civil society, traditional leaders, faith institutions, and young people move beyond declarations and into consistent, accountable action.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we move towards 2030, our commitment must be measured not by statements made on international days, but by the lives protected, the girls educated, the communities transformed, and the harmful norms dismantled. Ending FGM is possible; but only if we choose, every day, to fund it, prioritize it, and stand with those leading the movement from the ground\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Across Kenya, grassroots women are leading some of the most transformative efforts to end FGM\/C, child marriage, and gender-based violence. They are survivors, sisters, mothers, youth leaders, and community mobilizers deeply rooted in the everyday realities of their people. They carry lived experience, cultural wisdom, and moral authority that no external intervention can replace.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, despite their central role in social transformation, many continue to work in isolation under-resourced, under-recognized, and exposed to emotional, social, and physical risks. Their labour is often celebrated in words but neglected in practice.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is within this reality and in alignment with the spirit of Zero Tolerance that the <\/span><b>Sister-to-Sister Convening<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was born.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a28ad92 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"a28ad92\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-79997ea elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"79997ea\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">A Feminist Response to Isolation and Invisibility<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-20be887 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"20be887\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e5223c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e5223c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sister-to-Sister Convening was designed as a healing-centred, feminist, and survivor-informed space that brings grassroots women leaders together not as beneficiaries, but as knowledge holders, strategists, and movement architects.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rooted in the principles of <\/span><b>African Women Rights Advocates (AWRA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the convening centered:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feminist leadership and shared power<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Healing and collective care<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Community-rooted advocacy<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Survivor-informed approaches<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sustainable and ethical resourcing<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Intergenerational solidarity<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than reinforcing hierarchies, the space intentionally dismantled them. Many navigate these challenges in silence, believing they must be strong at all times.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sister-to-Sister Convening disrupted this narrative.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through dialogue circles, reflection sessions, storytelling, and peer learning, sisters were able to:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Name their struggles without fear<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Share lessons from their communities<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Celebrate victories, big and small<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grieve losses collectively<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reconnect with purpose and joy<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What emerged was a powerful shift from isolated resistance to collective power.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sisters began to see themselves not as lone actors, but as part of a national ecosystem of feminist leadership working toward a shared vision: a Kenya free from FGM\/C, child marriage, and all forms of gender-based violence.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we mark Zero Tolerance Day 2026, this collective power is exactly what sustained commitment looks like in practice.
