Jamas Murray is a community protector, educator, and grassroots advocate from West Pokot whose <\/span>work stands at the frontline of protecting girls from FGM, child marriage, and gender-based violence. As <\/span>the Founder and Executive Director of Blossom Beyond Borders, she has dedicated herself to creating <\/span>immediate pathways to safety for girls living in some of the most underserved and high risk <\/span>communities in the region.<\/span><\/p>

Her journey into this work was shaped by painful proximity to loss. Growing up, Jamas witnessed bright <\/span>young girls disappear from school and into child marriages after undergoing FGM. For years, many of <\/span>these girls had no one to intervene on their behalf. That reality became the turning point that pushed <\/span>her to act. She founded Blossom Beyond Borders not simply to raise awareness, but to respond in real <\/span>time, rescuing girls before harm happens and ensuring they have safe alternatives and continued access <\/span>to education.<\/span><\/p>

Through community led rescue efforts, mentorship, temporary shelter, and reintegration into school, <\/span>Jamas has directly supported dozens of girls at imminent risk while also engaging families, elders, and <\/span>local leaders in conversations that challenge harmful norms and strengthen collective responsibility for <\/span>protection. <\/span>Her work is rooted in presence, trust, and rapid response, especially during school holidays, <\/span>a period she identifies as the moment when girls are most vulnerable to FGM and forced marriage.<\/span><\/p>

What makes Jamas\u2019 approach powerful is her belief that lasting change cannot be imposed from <\/span>outside, but must be built with communities themselves. While her work confronts harmful practices, it <\/span>also recognizes the resilience, dignity, and evolving willingness for change within her community. She <\/span>continues to create spaces where girls are not only protected, but seen, heard, and supported to <\/span>imagine futures beyond violence.<\/span><\/p>

Guided by values of courage, dignity, accountability, and compassion, Jamas envisions a future where <\/span>every girl can move through adolescence safely, remain in school, and grow into adulthood on her own <\/span>terms. Through Sister to Sister Initiative and her broader community partnerships, she hopes to <\/span>strengthen networks of solidarity, amplify grassroots realities, and build sustainable systems of <\/span>protection that no girl is left behind.<\/span><\/p>
