Meet Kawkab, a 10-year-old Sudanese shero whose superpowers allow her to defy space and time. Kawkab was created by AWRA founding member Reem Abdellatif and Sudanese Artist Ibrahim of Abbas Comics to empower African children through educational comics. Kawkab is one of many young girls who dares to dream. She uses her unique talents to make those dreams come true despite the odds seemingly stacked against her. Kawkab is part of a wider series that features stories and adventures of young African kids from across the continent.
AWRA is a pan-African, women-led organization founded by survivors of various forms of gender-based violence from Africa and the diaspora. The AWRA movement is a safe space where women and girls can empower one another through art, education, and activism.
We believe African girls need to see themselves represented in all areas of society — including comics, television, as well as STEM (science, tech, engineering, and mathematics). This is where our work comes in to encourage women and girls to #ReclaimTheNarrative.
